In Year 10 Mathematics, students continue to work on Level 5 of the National Curriculum. The course covers all five strands of the curriculum (Number, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement and Statistics) and builds on material learnt in Year 9.

Course focus

Decimals, percentages and fractions are further explored.

Trigonometry is introduced, including a number of uses such as vectors and bearings

Algebra is approached mainly from the angle of graphing. Rather than looking at skills like solving and factorising in isolation students are introduced to some direct purpose to apply these skills.

Measurement builds on the core skills covered in Year 9. This is developed to include all of the circular measures and the ability to be able to use a formula both to work forwards and calculate and to work in reverse

Statistics and Probability are given increased focus in the programme. Probability includes developing a sense of the difference between theory and experiment and working with probability trees. Statistics is approached with interpretation as the key focus using spreadsheets to do the graphing

Students are well prepared for Year 11 Mathematics in the following year.
