Year 10 Science introduces students to a wide range of scientific concepts, skills and ideas that will help them to develop a more in-depth understanding of the world around them. The content of this course provides a solid foundation for the study of the sciences in the senior school.
Course Focus
Semester 1 - Develop an appreciation for our planet and build investigation and science communication skills in the following contexts
Survival in the Taiao (environment) – adaptations of plants and animals for survival in the four spheres of our planet
Everyday chemistry - investigate properties of acids and bases and explain how carbon cycles through the spheres of our planet
Waves - understanding how energy is transferred in waves including water, sound, light and seismic waves
Semester 2 - Develop an understanding of key science concepts
Physics Around You – calculations and interpretations of graphs related to force and motion
Chemical Wonders – atomic structure, ion formation, ionic compounds, metals and non-metals and their properties and reactions
Human Body systems – explain key features and links between the circulatory, digestive and respiratory systems
